Your friend has been looking for apartments for rent and now the search is over. If you have been invited to an apartment-warming party you may not be sure if you need to bring a gift. While it is not a requirement, it is always nice to bring a small item to help welcome your friend into his or her new apartment. Here are some ideas.

1. Nice Bottle of Wine or Favorite Beverage

As with every party, it’s always appreciated if you bring a nice bottle of wine, some beer or another favorite beverage. It can be a beverage to share at the party or one that the new apartment tenants can enjoy later. If you don’t intend to share it at the party, it’s a good idea to put it in a gift bag. This sends the message that it is to be put aside for another time.

2. House Plant

A planted house plant is a great apartment-warming gift. While cut flowers are nice, they will eventually die. A living house plant will become part of the décor and provide a splash of life into the new apartment. Over the months and years the plant will also serve as a reminder of your thoughtfulness and the exciting first days in the new apartment.

3. Household Items

If you know that the person throwing the apartment-warming party needs something specific, it’s a nice gesture to buy it for them. If the person will be living on their own for the first time, there are probably tons of things to choose from. Whether it’s a set of new glasses, a nice corkscrew, or a small coffee maker; there’s always something that a person looking for apartments for rent will need.

4. Tools

Obviously you don’t need giant tools in an apartment, but a small apartment tool kit can be a very useful apartment-warming gift. Small tool kits usually include things like a hammer, screwdriver, wrench or flashlight. These tools will be used for putting together furniture or taking care of small maintenance items around the apartment. Obviously most rental properties have a maintenance person who will take care of big jobs, but it’s always nice to be able to fix small things on your own.

5. Decorative Items

Decorative items, much like house plants, will help add to the look of the new apartment. Many apartments for rent are little more than white walls and beige carpet. Help your friend or family member by adding a splash of color and style. Consider candles, picture frames, vases or other decorative items as a nice apartment-warming gift.
